FAQ
-
Why do shingles cost so much? The reason shingles cost so much is a continuing price increase with our material providers. Even though the price of fuel has leveled out and demand for shingles are at an all time high, material providers continue to pile on cost to the consumers to continue recording record profits.

Why is the cost of my roof so expensive? To add to the cost of shingles continuing to skyrocket, labor and insurances have also trended in the upward trajectory, forcing roofing companies to pass along costs to the homeowner. Roofing insurance, between workman’s compensation and liability, is upward of 50%. Therefore, if the labor on a project is roughly $5000, the roofing contractor will need to write a check to the insurance company for $2500, which adds up VERY QUICKLY. Labor has increased 25% since Covid, which also forces contractors to pass along a higher cost to homeowners.

What is the best brand of shingles for our region? We typically use the Atlas Pinnacle Pristine shingle for our area. They are manufactured in Meridian, Mississippi and have reps that live in the Mandeville area. If there is ever an issue with the product, the reps are able to be on-site within days, providing the homeowner with an assurance of quality over quantity. Not only are their shingles quality, but their warranty is quality as well. They truly stand behind their product with a limited-lifetime warranty that starts to pro-rate after 15 years. Insurance companies have stated that after 10 years, they want to see a new roof on a property. Therefore, the whole time that your roof is in place, it is covered under the Atlas warranty. The other reason Atlas is so good is because of the Scotchgard 3M, copper-infused granules that they use. When most roofs start to look streaky after 3-5 years, an Atlas Pinnacle Pristine roof will look good for 20+ years.

How long does it take to complete a roof?Typically, a standard 30 square roof will be able to be completed in as little as 1-2 days, with a full clean up at the end.

What is the deal with the fortified roofs?Fortified roofs are attached better in the plywood and covered with an extra layer of ice and water shield to keep water from infiltrating through the shingles. By attaching the plywood with ring shank nails every 4”, the roof will handle uplift better in the event of a hurricane. The edges of the roof are nailed down better with the drip edge, and ice and water shield melts to the plywood over the course of the entire roof. It literally fortifies your roof in the event of inclement weather such as hurricanes and tornadoes.

What is the timeframe an insurance company will insure our roof?Insurance companies are typically only insuring roofs for 10 and up to 15 years before requiring homeowners to install a new roofing system. Most people in Southeast Louisiana have waited until a storm even such as hail or a hurricane before changing their roof, as most people are living paycheck to paycheck and don’t have disposable funds at hand in the event of replacing a roof. Insurance companies are tired of paying out claims on old and outdated roofs, as this is the highest cost and most liability that they face. By forcing homeowners to replace their outdated roofs, this lessens their liability and costs them less money over time.
